National Society of Black Engineers

Fulfilling our Mission

There are so many of our members who actively seek to enhance their academic careers through scholarship opportunities, scholar programs, and research. Many of our members excel not only in lecture halls but throughout UK’s campus as well. We also have had multiple members who have possessed a GPA of 4.0 since they were freshmen. Our membership consists of:

  • Student Ambassadors
  • LSAMP Scholars
  • Peer Mentors
  • Campus Tutors
  • Teaching Assistants
  • National NSBE Scholarship Recipients

Time and time again, our members have impressed recruiters from all over the country at various career fairs and conventions. Our members have had the privilege of obtaining job offers and/or working with some of the biggest names in engineering like:

  • Boeing
  • Cummins
  • Toyota
  • Ford
  • General Motors
  • Honeywell
  • Microsoft
  • Messer
  • Jacobs
  • Lockheed Martin
  • Norfolk Southern
  • Intel

And many more!

We of the University of Kentucky chapter hold this pillar as the most important as we know how critical our influence is on the world and future generations. We dedicate much of our time to planning, organizing and executing different outreach programs that focus both on the welfare of the community and the awareness of minorities in STEM. Here are some programs that we have hosted and/or joined in order to positively impact the community:

  • NSBE Spreads the Love – Annual event focused on the wellbeing of the needy in the Lexington community
    • Winter Clothing Drive
    • Provide Bag Lunches
  • Walk For Education – Participated in a local trunk or treat at Douglass Park to give away sweets and explain NSBE’s purpose to parents and kids
  • Somerset – Annual event where middle school students join us for STEM activities (egg drop, bridge building, Rube Goldberg machines..etc.)
  • Body Shop – Host battery-controlled car competition for high school students
  • Metro CATS – Semester-long program where our members taught digital literacy to inner city kids in Lexington
